The Pell City Kiwanis Teacher of the Month for April was awarded to Keith White, who has been teaching art in the Pell City School System for the past 25 years. White was recently named the Coosa Valley Elementary School Teacher of the Year for 2016-2017.

“Mr. White shows children they can create art, even if they aren’t artistic,” said Jennifer Hannah, principal for Coosa Valley. “He is a great mentor to all of the students.”
Art created by White’s students adorn the halls of the local elementary schools. Students are taught not only technique in a variety of mediums, but also about art history. Recently, White’s students at Walter M. Kennedy created art in the style of Georgia O’Keefe.
White taught at Coosa Valley for seven years, Pell City High School for seven years, and has taught at both Coosa Valley and Walter M. Kennedy Elementary schools for the past 11 years—teaching art in the fall at Coosa Valley and spring at Walter M. Kennedy. White also heads art club and drum ensemble at both schools.
“I am very blessed to serve the Pell City School System,” White said. “My parents and my brother Ronnie White, who passed away in 2005, instilled in me to be a person that wants to serve the community.
Hannah added, “We appreciate what Kiwanis does for the community. It is nice to be recognized for the positive things we are doing in our schools.”
