PREP FOOTBALL: Propst steps down as Pell City coach

PELL CITY — Rush Propst stepped down as Pell City’s football coach after just one season.
In a special meeting held on Friday, May 3, the Pell City Board of Education accepted Propst’s resignation. In April, Propst withstood an attempt to remove him from his position after the board failed to make a motion to non-renew his contract.
Propst on Friday released a statement on X/Twitter, stating, “To be absolutely clear, this decision was mine and mine alone. I believe that this is the best path for our team, my family, and the entire Pell City School System.”
Defensive coordinator Nick Gentry will serve as the team’s coach, it has been confirmed.
Pell City hired Propst, who has 296 career victories, in March 2023.
The Panthers went 1-9 last season — with seven of those losses coming by eight points or less.
