Breast Cancer Awareness was the topic of discussion at the Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce meeting last week.  Survivors were recognized and serve a free lunch.  Beth Pool spoke and shared her personal experiences as being a one year cancer survivor.  The pink Breast Cancer Awareness fire truck from Sherman Industries, Leeds Fire Truck and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s pink Susan G. Komen car were all available for photo ops. 

Moody Miracle League player, Dylan Sebastian, is in Maryland this week visiting relatives and having a great time.  One of the highlights of his trip was the opportunity to go indoor skydiving.  Dylan is a fearless young adult.  Despite being legally blind, having mild CP and on the autism spectrum, he never lets anything get him down and he is open to trying anything.  Dylan has gone zip lining in both Mexico and Alaska, rafting in Alaska, horseback riding, plus many other activities that his parents never thought he would do.  He said indoor skydiving was fun and it was very windy!

The City of Moody and Moody Area Chamber of Commerce welcomed the new 76 station on Friday with a ribbon cutting to celebrate their grand opening.  This is the first 76 station in Alabama which took the place of the Marathon with The Store located at 2110 Moody Parkway.

Jones Stephens hosted the Moody Area Chamber of Commerce Corporate Liaison group for an educational tour of their facility.  Their Moody facility alone has 300,000 sq. ft. of warehouse space with approximately 20k products that they distribute to wholesale plumbing suppliers. Jones Stephens has been in the plumbing specialty business since 1993 and has additional distribution centers in Pottsville, PA and Valencia, CA.  The Moody distribution center is their main office which provides 150 jobs right here in Moody.

Valley View Baptist Church in Leeds is receiving Hurricane Michael Relief Donations to benefit those affected by the storm in southeast Alabama and north Florida.  Collection began October 18 with the first scheduled trip to deliver donations being Thursday, Nov. 1.  Donations may be dropped off at the church located at 7254 President Street Monday through Friday between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.  For a complete list of donation items, please visit www.valleyviewbaptist.com.  For any questions concerning the donations or the collection, please contact Valley View Baptist at (205) 699-8398.

The Leeds Carnival is in full swing from now until Oct. 28 located in the lot between Lehigh and Windstream.  Carnival hours are as follows:  Wednesday-Thursday 5-9 p.m., Friday 5-9 p.m., Saturday 1-10 p.m. and Sunday 1-5 p.m.  There is no admission to attend, except for the rides.  Please visit www.LeedsAreaChamber.com for more information and bring your family out for a great time together to enjoy the carnival!

The Episcopal Church of the Epiphany will present An Evening Out with String Theory from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 26 with an array of delicious food, dessert, drink and music.  This event is a major fundraiser for the church and tickets are $62.50 per person.  Tickets may be purchased at stringt.eventbrite.com or call 205-699-2404 for more information.

The Monster Mash Dash 5k and Fun Run is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 27 to support Leeds Elementary School and Leeds Primary School.  This event will be held at the Outlet Shops of Grand River. 

Pioneer General Store & Antique Market will host an Open House event this Saturday, Oct. 28 at 10 a.m. to celebrate their 2nd anniversary.  Shop for the holidays from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and enjoy door prizes, food, sales, local vendors and artists.

Fall Festivals and Trunk or Treat Events this year include:  Bethel Baptist Church will host their Fall Festival on Sunday, Oct. 28 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.  Leeds First Baptist Church will host their Fall Festival on Sunday, Oct. 28 at 3 p.m. with candy, food, games, hayride and more. 

Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce will host their annual Downtown Trick or Treat event on Halloween, Oct. 31 from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m.  Businesses will be giving out candy all along Parkway Drive downtown from Sonic to the red light at Leeds Arts Council to provide safe trick or treating event for Leeds area children.  Also, Leeds First United Methodist Church will host their Fall Festival at the same time in conjunction with Leeds Downtown Trick or Treat.

The Tower of Prayer is hosting Trunk or Treat on Halloween, Oct. 31 from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. with face painting, tons of candy, games, prizes, music, fun for the whole family and much more.  Costumes encouraged, but no masks please. 

Leeds Lions Club is scheduled to meet at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1 at Leeds Masonic Lodge.

Leeds Masonic Lodge Community Breakfast will be on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 8 a.m.  Breakfast is free, but donations are appreciated for community involvement projects.  Please contact T.V. Weaver for more information at 205-699-6742.
