The Advanced Placement Program has earned Leeds High School recognition as one of two schools statewide to be named Schools of Distinction.  Four school years ago, LHS initiated teaching the Advanced Placement college level courses in six subjects.  This program provided the ability for a student to take an AP course, earn a “qualifying score” and be eligible to receive college credit for their efforts.  Each school in Alabama was required to set goals for qualifying scores.  LHS set their goal at 20.  In 2016, there were 38 qualifying scores.  In 2017 there were 48 qualifying scores and in 2018 there were 62 qualifying scores which far exceeded their goal.  In addition to this incredible success, the LHS calculus teacher led 100% of her students to receive a qualifying score for 2017 and 2018.  For the Class of 2018, LHS is one of two high schools in the state to be named a School of Distinction.  We are very proud of you, Leeds High School.  Great job!

Congratulations to Rashad Clark, a Moody High School football player, for being the WBRC Player of the Week.  Clark ran a total of 341 yards and four touchdowns in a win over St. Clair County High School.  Clark and Coach Wallace were recognized and spoke briefly at the Moody Area Chamber of Commerce meeting last week.

Congratulations also to Hanna Kirkpatrick on your ribbon cutting for Prime Cut 2 in Leeds on Courson Street.  Hanna has been in the hair business for over 10 years.  Her work has been seen nationally from magazine covers to prime time television shows.  Hanna has traveled many places to learn the business, the trade and is continuing to learn something new every day.  Two other girls, Julie and Olivia, also work in the salon.  Julie has been in the hair business for 14 years and Olivia has been in the business for 12 years.  All three worked in the Hoover area until Hanna and her husband, David, moved back to the Leeds.  Hanna knew she wanted to get involved with the community and be a part of Leeds so she decided to open a salon where people could feel at home and welcome.  The Prime Cut 2 is a family friendly salon that takes walk-ins and works late for those who can’t get off work early.  They also offer active and retired military as well as police and firefighters discounts.  Be sure to visit their Facebook page.  You can reach Prime Cut 2 at 205-702-6560 or theprimecuttwo@gmail.com.
