Summer is passing so fast this year and it is only weeks until school starts.  Leeds Outreach and Shepherd Supply are working through the summer taking applications from families who need help with school supplies as well as working hard to collect school supplies to meet these needs.  If you would like to help either of these organizations by donating school supplies or making a financial donation to help, please consider doing so.  Leeds Outreach is located at 1000 Park Drive in Leeds Civic Center and may be reached at 205-699-7291.  As we discussed last week, Shepherd Supply has partnered with the City of Moody and you may drop off school supplies at Moody City Hall, Moody Library and Moody Civic Center.

Mum & Me Mercantile right on Parkway Drive has a back to school and summer sale that began July 10.  If you haven’t stopped in Mum & Me lately, be sure to stop in to see all of the wonderful merchandise and back to school supplies they have in stock.  This store is truly an awesome shopping destination!

The St. Clair County High School Class of 1974 will meet for dinner at 6:30 p.m. tonight, July 12 at Carpenetti’s.

The Leeds Arts Council will present their summer musical, “Hunchback of Notre Dame,” which is a new musical based on the Victor Hugo novel and songs from the Disney film.  Produced by Sandi Nicholson and directed by Cliff Keen, Jr., the show dates beginning this Friday are July 13-15, 20-22 and 27.  Tickets are $15 and may be purchased by calling 205-699-1892.  You will not want to miss this powerful event with the retelling of Victor Hugo’s epic story of love, acceptance and what it means to be a hero.

Plan to join the City of Moody for Thunder in the Park Fireworks Show this Saturday, July 14 at Moody City Park from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. for a fun evening of live music, food and inflatables.  Plaque Presentation at the Recognition Wall is scheduled from 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.

It’s also Karaoke Night at Rails & Ales this Saturday, July 14 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. sponsored by the Leeds Jane Culbreth Library.

Leeds First Baptist Church will host an Outdoor Movie Night with Free Taco Bar featuring Nacho Libre at 7:30 p.m. this Sunday, July 15.  Popcorn, tacos, drinks are included and this event is free to the entire community.

The Moody Lions Club will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 16 at White’s Chapel.

Moody Kiwanis are scheduled to meet at Noon on Tuesday, July 17 at Moody City Hall.

The Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce Corporate Ambassadors will meet at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 18 at Leeds First United Methodist Church Family Life Center.  Lunch is $10 and RSVP to Sandra McGuire at Sandra@LeedsAreaChamber.com,

Breakfast for the Brave will be served at 9 a.m. on Thursday, July 19 at the Leeds River Campus of Eden Westside Baptist Church.  If you are a policeman, fireman, EMT or other first responder in the greater Leeds Area, please come by for a free breakfast and fellowship.  For more information, please visit www.EdenWestside.org.

The Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce will host their chamber luncheon at 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, July 19 at Leeds First United Methodist Church Family Life Center.  Guest speaker will be Karen Moore with Pearce, Bevill, Leesburg, Moore, PC CPA who will provide needed information for businesses on the new tax laws.  Lunch is $12 with RSVP to Sandra McGuire at 205-699-5001 or Sandra@LeedsAreaChamber.com.

Eden Westside Baptist Church will host Vacation Bible School’s Time Lab at 6:30 p.m. on Monday through Friday, July 23-27 at their Leeds River Campus.  Dinner is provided and VBS is completely free.  Be sure your child gets to participate and travel back in time to witness epic events in history.  Register now at www.EdenWestside.org for 4 year olds through 8th Grade.
