Trucks full of trash were picked up off the streets and roadsides during the Leeds 4th Annual Community Cleanup. Photo by Dona Bonnett

We all had a great day on Saturday with the Leeds 4th Annual Community Cleanup. We met in downtown Leeds and disbursed from there. Despite the threat of rain and cold weather, the turnout was great and the weather held off so it didn’t rain or get too cold until after the event was over.  Teams picked up trash on various streets as part of the city’s ongoing Don’t Drop It on Alabama volunteer roadside cleanup.  Volunteers who participated included Leeds area businesses, non-profits, city council members, city workers, Girl Scout troops and individuals.  Jefferson County provided security to keep watch over our teams, Chick-fil-A Leeds provided breakfast for everyone and Alabama PALS provided the bags.  This is just another example of the wonderful volunteerism and community spirit that we have in the Leeds/Moody area.  It’s great to be part of something bigger than ourselves and I invite you to get involved with what’s happening in our communities.

This week, the Leeds Jane Culbreth Library joins libraries nationwide in celebrating the many ways libraries lead their communities through the transformative services, programs and expertise they offer.  Libraries aren’t just places to borrow books or study.  They’re also creative and engaging community centers where people can collaborate using new technologies and develop their skills and passions.  In celebration of National Library Week, Leeds Jane Culbreth Library is accepting a coupon to reduce up to $5 worth of late fees on someone’s Jefferson County library card during Apr. 8-14.  Coupons are available at http://www.jclc.org/coupon.aspx.  For more information, please call 205-699-5962.
