Alfa Insurance agent, Paul Perry, earned the 2017 Distinguished Service Award – Silver for Alabama during the company’s annual awards ceremony in Birmingham last week at the Hyatt Regency Wynfrey Hotel.  The ceremony recognized the company’s best agents and managers for their dedicated service and commitment to policyholders.  Paul has served as an Alfa agent since 2015 and represents the company’s full line of insurance for auto, home, life and business.  Paul is very active in his local community and is currently serving on the Board of Directors for the Moody Area Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Odenville Chamber of Commerce.  Congratulations, Paul, for a job well done.  Keep up the great work!

Moody Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a reception last week at Moody Civic Center to meet and greet newly appointed St. Clair County Commissioner, Ricky Parker.  Other county commissioners were there as Ricky talked about his vision for the future.  Many people turned out to congratulate Ricky and some just came to shake his hand and say, “Nice to meet you”.  The chamber was honored to partner with the Moody Beautification Committee on this event.

Leeds Lions Club will meet at 1 p.m. today, Mar. 1 at the Leeds Masonic Lodge building.

Bro. Jacky Connell of Eden Westside Baptist Church will be available to autograph copies of his new book, “Painkillers,” at the Pell City Library from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. tonight, Mar. 1 and at Barnes & Noble Patton Creek from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, Mar. 3.  This book deals with how people deal with all types of pain.  For more information, please visit www. The City of Leeds and Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce will conduct a ribbon cutting at Leeds Hwy 55 Burgers Shakes & Fries to celebrate their re-opening at 10 a.m. this Friday, Mar. 2 located at 8525 Whitfield Avenue in the shopping center next to Wal-Mart.

The Leeds Masonic Lodge Community Breakfast is scheduled for 8 a.m. this Saturday, Mar. 3.  Breakfast is free, but donations are appreciated.  Please contact T.V. Weaver at 205-699-6742 for more information.

Don’t forget the $10,000 Leeds Green Wave Giveaway event, which is scheduled for 6 p.m. this Saturday, Mar. 3 at Moody Civic Center. Tickets are $100 and include dinner for two as well as fun, games and door prizes.  Grand Prize amount is based upon the number of tickets sold. You do not have to be present to win the $10,000 Grand Prize. Grand Prize is awarded to the last ticket drawn. Ticket holder or proxy must have possession of the ticket. Ticket holder or proxy must be present to auction or sell ticket. You must be at least 18 years old to enter.

The Moody Kid Quilts Group is scheduled to meet on Monday and Tuesday, Mar. 5-6 at Moody City Hall.  This group meets to make quilts for Children’s Hospital to distribute to sick children.  Bring your sewing machine, ironing board, fabric and supplies to make these beautiful quilts together.  For more information, please contact Clydene Dyer at 205-515-4751 or Barbara Willingham at 205-400-4560.

The Leeds Arts Council will be hosting rehearsals each Tuesday night at 7 p.m. between now and May at the Leeds Presbyterian Church for the Leeds Community Chorus Elvis Themed Concert scheduled for Saturday, May 12.  If you like to sing, this is your opportunity to get in on the action.  For more information, please visit www. The City of Leeds and the Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon cutting at Ann’s New Life Center at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Mar. 7.  This new business is a resource center dedicated to supporting and empowering women facing unplanned pregnancies and offer free pregnancy testing, pregnancy classes and parenting classes.  Families who take the classes have access to their baby boutique to have access to any baby supplies that you need including diapers, baby clothes, maternity clothes, cribs, car seats and more.  Pregnancy testing is free, confidential and no judgement.  For more information about Ann’s New Life Center located at 7404 Roosevelt Drive across from the fire station, please call 205-338-4580.

The Moody Area Chamber of Commerce will host its luncheon at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Mar. 8.  This month’s event will be a forum for the St. Clair County Superintendent Race and the St. Clair County Sheriff Race at Moody Civic Center.  Please note the location this month is different from the regular protocol and it is very important to RSVP to Andrea Machen at 205-640-6262.

Moody Lions Club will present Three on a String at the Lions Club Fundraiser Dinner Banquet at the Moody Civic Center on Saturday, Mar. 17 with dinner at 6 p.m. and the show begins at 7 p.m.  Tickets are $25 and doors open at 5:30 p.m.  This event will also include a silent auction.  Bids will be taken throughout the evening and, immediately following, door prizes and high bid winners will be announced.  For tickets or more information, please contact local Moody Lions Club President, Vince Eiser at 205-910-0724 or email LionsOfMoody@gmail.com.

The Leeds Arts Council will host a one night event on Saturday, Mar. 17 at 7 p.m. featuring the Mac and Moss Combo who will play songs you grew up hearing and singing. They will play the standard jazz tunes from the “Great American Songbook” such as “Blue Moon”, “Moonglow” ,“All of Me”, “Moon River”, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and “Satin Doll”.  This group features Nancy McLemore on vocals, Mike Moss on guitar, Jon Ford on bass and Don Wendorf on drums.  The audience is invited to sing along, dance or just sit back, relax and listen to all of these old favorites.  Tickets are $10.  Reservations are not required.  For reservations and more information, please call 205-699-1892. 

Moody Kiwanis Club is hosting its semi-annual pancake supper, Pancakes for a Purpose, at Carpenetti’s Pizzeria Restaurant on Monday, Mar. 19 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.  Proceeds will fund college scholarships for area Key Club students, youth projects, and Dolly Parton Imagination Library free book program for preschoolers. Dine in with your family or carry out at only $5 per plate.
