- Run through the Jungle
Now, thanks to some very generous local companies, many veterans in the St. Clair County area will experience a special event this year for free.
Team Hennessy and Franklin First Financial, along with The Realty Pros in Pell City (Barbara Turbville and Nancy Locklear) and Pruitt & Richardson Attorneys, have come together to present a special performance by Pell City’s The Wingnuts on Nov. 10. The show, called “Run Through the Jungle” after the iconic Creedence Clearwater Revival song, is a group effort to raise funds to support veterans outreach in our area.

Times for the event have been moved up in the evening. On Friday, Nov. 10, doors will open 4:30 p.m. The event will begin with free food for attendees at 5 p.m. at the Center for Education and Performing Arts in Pell City (CEPA), and the show will begin at 6 p.m. with Judge Bill Hereford serving as narrator. Tickets are $20 or $10 for seniors and veterans.
A primary goal for the event sponsors is to make sure all veterans who want to attend have an opportunity. So, they are offering free tickets to the event for those who contact Teresa Carden at 205-405-0603. Carden, a representative of title sponsor Franklin First Financial, can direct veterans and their families on how to secure free tickets to the show.
Organizations working to host the event include CEPA, the St. Clair County Extension, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Robert L. Howard Veterans Home. All proceeds from the event will go directly to the support veterans outreach programs through the Extension.
The WingNuts are a group of aviation buffs who enjoy playing music from primarily the 1960s-80s. Three members are pilots and all enjoy playing in their home hangar at the St. Clair County Airport. Band Members are Alan Furr, Sandra Furr, Donnie Todd, Mickey Farmer, Teresa Carden, Glenn Wilson, and Bobby Breed.
The event will feature more than just music, as organizers are also asking for area veterans to display their collections from their times in the service. Those interested should contact Wayne Johnson at the Extension.
