Bring your entire family out this Saturday, Oct. 7 for Moody Oktoberfest from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Moody City Park.  This historic festival is sure to be a crowd pleaser and the weather is supposed to be beautiful.  There will be plenty of fun with arts and craft vendors, food vendors, entertainment on two stages all day long and loads of activities for the kids.  The famous Chick-fil-A Mascot Challenge is back by popular demand.  Entertainment lineup includes Brandon Elder, Traylor 8, Crossing Grass and much, much more on the ALFA Insurance Main Stage.  Vendors include, but not limited to, Magnolia Farms with homemade jams and jellies, Distressed and Blessed, Pawpaw’s BBQ, The Bomb, Simply Owl Boutique, Scentsy, Lipsense and more PLUS remember the C & C Motor Co. & Carpenetti’s Car Show from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. to benefit the Moody Miracle League.  For more information about this year’s festival, please visit their Facebook page or contact Andrea Machen at 205-640-6262.

The Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Leeds conducted a ribbon cutting at Wal-Mart last week to celebrate their online grocery shopping service.  Also, the Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce High School Diplomats toured UAB Hospital downtown last week. These students learned more about the medical field and career opportunities available through UAB.  

Leeds River Campus and Eden Westside Baptist Church will continue their 7-week teaching series on Painkillers this Sunday morning at 11 a.m.  This week’s teaching segment will explore Idolatry as a way that some people cope with pain.  You will not want to miss this important topic and please invite your family and friends.  For more information and access to a daily video devotion on this topic, please visit www.EdenWestside.org/painkillers.  Eden Westside – a place to heal, help and call home.

Bring your pet for a blessing.  There will be a Blessing of Animals on Sunday, Oct. 8 anytime between 3-5 p.m. at the pavilion by the Miracle League Field at Moody City Park.  Every animal will receive a prayer, a certificate and a photo.  Blessing of Animals is sponsored by Acmar United Methodist Church.  For more information, please call the church at 205-640-4325 or Belinda Wilson at 205-640-6719.

The Moody City Council will meet at 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 9 at Moody City Hall.

LadyBUGS, the Leeds/Moody professional women’s organization, will meet at Noon on Tuesday, Oct. 10 at The Livery event center in Leeds.  All ladies in the greater Leeds/Moody area are invited to attend.  Lunch is $10 and RSVP to anneglidewell@yahoo.com.

The Moody Area Chamber of Commerce will host their monthly chamber luncheon on Thursday, Oct. 12 at Moody City Hall.  Lunch is $10 with RSVP, which includes the opportunity to meet/greet, hear a great speaker and enjoy a tasty lunch.  This month’s guest speaker will be Jeff Parrish with the St. Clair County High School Fire Academy.  Make your reservations with Andrea Machen, Executive Director, at 205-640-6262.

The Doris Stanley Memorial Library will host author, Glenn Willis, on Oct. 12.  Mr. Willis wrote “The Forgotten Alabama” and will have a special presentation at the Moody Civic Center beginning at 1 p.m.  For more information, please contact the library staff at 205-640-2517.

The American Legion Post 107 will hold a ceremony to dedicate the new names placed on the Veterans Memorial Wall in Leeds at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14. Guest speakers will include Mayor David Miller, State Representative Dickie Drake and Wayne Turner, Past State of Alabama American Legion Commander.  Everyone is welcome and refreshments will be served.

The Leeds Lions Club invites you to celebrate with them for 70 years of service in Leeds.  Join them on Sunday, Oct. 15 from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. at the Leeds Masonic Lodge building, located at 8413 2nd Avenue (behind the Pants Store), for a reception and to learn more about how you can help our community through Lions International.
