Hello everyone.  Hope you all had a good week.

Happy birthday to 3-year old McKiley Doty, Paul Davis, Matt Dorough, Blair Smith, Jacob Bass, Matt Brascho, Asher Warren, Phillip Sweet, Dot Doak, Scott Jackson, Tom Kelly and Callie Clemmons. Also congratulations to R.A and Betty Compton on their wedding anniversary.   Happy birthday and congratulations to all others who have celebrated this past week.

Patsy Ford and her cousin, Mary Collum, recently drove to Montgomery to stay with Mary’s daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Don Vardaman and their daughter, Kayce.  While there they all attended the musical “Menopause,” at the Shakespeare Theatre.  They also toured the Rosa Parks Museum in downtown Montgomery and rode through the section called Old Town.  It was a great experience since it had been several years since Patsy had been to Montgomery.

Last week, Barbara Alvis was treated with a visit from daughter-in-law, Whitney, grand-daughter, 7 year-old Mikel, and grandson, 5 year-old Teg.  They were completing a vacation road trip, driving from Oklahoma to Culver, Indiana, to Seabright Island (off the South Carolina coast from Charleston) to Pell City.  They then returned to their new farm in Dibble, Oklahoma, just outside of Norman.  Anticipating the arrival of a baby boy to their family in September, they knew this would be their last chance to take a vacation like this for some time.  They were happy to experience some rain while in Pell City since Oklahoma is having a drought and the temperature has been staying above 100 degrees for days at a time.

McKiley Doty celebrated her 3rd birthday Saturday, July 23rd with a Pony Party at Oak Mountain Park.  Attendees got to ride horses, then celebrated with hot dogs, cake and cupcakes.  The weather held out and it was a great time for all.

Annette and Tommy Snow hosted friends from Atlanta, Angela Krause and her daughter, Emily over the weekend at their lake home.   Kayla and Michael Snow and Emily enjoyed riding the inner tube and sliding down the “curly” slide into the lake.  The Krauses’ joined the Snow’s and me at McKiley’s birthday party at Oak Mountain.

Squire Parsons will be singing on Saturday evening, the 30th, at Riverside Baptist.  The singing will be held on Saturday rather than the usually Sunday because of the singer’s schedule.

From the Senior Living:  According to Thomas Jefferson,

“I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.”

“The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.”

“It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes.”

In July 1955:  Disneyland had its opening day in Anaheim, California.

In July 1996:  TWA Flight 800, a Europe-bound Boeing 747, exploded and crashed off Long Island, NY, shortly after taking off from JFK International Airport, killing all 230 people aboard.

Congratulations to the Atlanta Braves who won 11-1 over the Washington Nationals on Friday night, July 22nd.  This win earned the Braves their 10,000th win in franchise history.  They join the Giants and Cubs as the only members of the 10,000-win club.

Reminder:  It is time to hang your hummingbird feeder, if you haven’t already done so.  Hang the feeder in an open area, out of reach of the cat.  You can make your nectar to fill your feeder by mixing 4 parts water to 1 part table sugar.  No need to use food coloring since nectar is clear.  We only have 6 more weeks to enjoy these delightful birds, so get that feeder out today.

Did you know that watermelon boosts your metabolism?  It is rich in the weight-loss promoting amino acid, acid arginine.  In lab studies, arginine enhanced fat burn and increased lean muscle, slowing the growth of body fat by 64% within 3 months.  And it is so yummy!
