Kay Buckner, co-author of "Enduring the Seasons of Marriage" will appear for a book signing and reading at the Pell City Library today at 10 a.m.

Welcoming friends and family home for the holidays is always a special treat.  Pell City Library is pleased to welcome a special author, Kay Buckner, home to Pell City and back to the library for a book-signing from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Dec. 4.  She will bring along her new book, which is co-authored by her husband, Ed Buckner, and entitled “Enduring The Seasons of Marriage.”

In her first book, “Glorious Gleanings from the Fields of Life,” which was targeted at young adults, Buckner shared her secrets for making three of the most important, and often difficult decisions in life.  With wisdom borne of experience, Buckner delved into such topics as choosing a vocation, choosing a mate and standing firm and true to ones morals and convictions.  Using analogies from her own childhood experiences on the farm and using Biblical illustrations and references, Buckner was able to deliver a work that was both helpful and enjoyable.

Her most recent work, “Enduring the Seasons of Marriage” goes a step further, and is intended as a sequel to her first work.  In this resource, Buckner shares in a style which is “folksy and conversational” how couples can survive and thrive during the seasons of marriage and ultimately attain a marriage which is successful and long-lasting as God ordained.  Drawing again from her seasons on the farm in childhood, and memorable contributions from siblings and cousin, Tandy Payne, Buckner recounts amusing stories that will have have you laughing, crying, and ultimately challenged to give her methods a try.  As you read, you might even take a trek down memory lane to your early-marital experiences and do a little reminiscing (and chuckling) of your own.

Whether single or married, readers are likely to find this read to be both enjoyable and inspirational.

Many will remember Buckner as Kay Black, the daughter Joe and Orene Black of Coal City. She was a 1954 graduate of Pell City High School, and earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Jacksonville State University in 1958.  She obtained her Master of Arts in teaching from Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla.  Her teaching career spanned over 30 years, beginning in Calhoun County, Ala., and ending at Lyman High School in Longwood, Fla.  She won numerous awards while teaching, including Teacher of the Year of Lyman High School, 1987, and the Disney Teacher Merit Award, 1989-1990. Buckner has been married for over 50 years to her college sweetheart and co-author, Ed Buckner.  The Buckners have two grown children and five grandchildren. The Buckners will travel to Pell City from their home in central Florida for their visit and book-signing events.

Buckner will have copies of her book available for purchase and signing at the library on Dec. 4.

At 10 a.m., Buckner will share readings from her book, and will be available for signing until 12 p.m.
