Pell City Fire Chief Michael Burdette retires; Clevenger named interim chief

Pell City Fire Department Chief Michael Burdette officially retired his position on Friday, Jan. 25 after serving Pell City more than 28 years.
Burdette was appointed Fire Chief in Dec. 2012 and served in that position since.

“With the great leadership under Chief Michael Burdette, the Pell City Police Department and Pell City Fire Department worked together to provide the best and most professional services in the State of Alabama,” said Pell City Police Chief Paul Irwin. “During his many years of service to the City of Pell City, Chief Burdette has been a person the Pell City Police Department can count on to assist us in providing services to the community. While Chief Burdette moves forward into his retirement the Pell City Police Department would like to recognize and thank him for everything he has done over his 28 years of services to our city. We wish him the best and may God bless him and his entire family. Thank you!”
Pell City Fire Chief Mike Burdette says the most rewarding part of his job was “going to bed every night and waking up every morning knowing he is working to protect the safety of men and women in the Pell City community.”
The Pell City City Council appointed Assistant Fire Chief Shaun Clevenger to interim chief at the council meeting on Monday night.
Clevenger has worked with the Pell City Fire Department since 1986. He is at Station 1 on Cogswell Avenue and has worked closely with Burdette over the years.
“We are just going to keep doing what we’re doing,” Clevenger said.
Clevenger will serve as interim Fire Chief until the Pell City City Council appoints a new chief.
