Dona Bonnett.

I am so excited about the New Year.  The possibilities are endless.  I have been thinking about what I would like to accomplish in 2019 and I hope you are doing the same.  One of my goals this year is to spend more time with family.  Last year was so busy, that there wasn’t enough time just to hang out.  Our children and grandchildren are all going in different directions and so are we, so the opportunities were few.  Now with the second great-grand on the way, we’ve got to prioritize more.

As you think about what’s important to you, there are three good ways we can spend our time.  Good is the enemy of better and better is the enemy of best.  Also, if we want to change some things in our lives, we have to change some things in our lives.  My main goal this year is to evaluate where my time is being spent and determine if it is the best way to spend it to meet my personal and professional goals.  I invite you to do the same.

Here’s some opportunities to get involved in your local community, if that is one of your goals this year.  There are many events throughout each month so be sure to read my column each week to see what’s happening.

The Doris Stanley Memorial Library has invited Mr. Earl T. “Buster” Smith for a presentation on his career as an Airman 1st Class in the United States Air Force and his attending the U.S. Navy Explosive Ordinance Disposal School.  After only nine months, he was faced with an assignment of handling a possible nuclear disaster in Faro, North Carolina.   His career after the Air Force was spent doing spot announcing for WBRC Channel 6 TV’s Country Boy Eddie Show where he met numerous country music stars such as Mel Tillis, Porter Wagoner, and Kris Kristofferson to name a few.  He currently resides in Lincoln, Alabama.  Please come to the Moody Civic Center January 24 at 1 p.m. to hear of his fascinating career and learn about a possible disaster that could have changed the United States as we know it today.
