Moody fights back on their last game of the season

The Moody Blue Devils fought back from a 7-point fourth quarter deficit to force overtime, but fell one point short in a tough loss at Plainview Friday night.  

After an emotional senior night win last Friday night, the Blue Devils took to the road for their last game of the season and the end came down to the last play once again.  Both teams forced three and outs on their first two possessions of the first quarter.  Moody was the first to score, putting together a 7-play drive that ended with Rashad Clark breaking free for 33 yards for the touchdown. Clark followed the touchdown up with a walk in two-point conversion. Moody led 8–0 after the first quarter.

The Bears answered back with two scores of their own in the second quarter. Aided by a personal foul penalty against the Blue Devils, Plainview found themselves at the Moody 18-yard line. The Bears scored on at 18-yard pass play and with the extra point the trailed the Blue Devils 8–7 with 8:29 left in the half.  

A Moody turnover aided in the next Plainview score. The Blue Devils fumbled the football and the Bears recover at the Moody 11-yard line. An offsides penalty on the Blue Devils moved the ball to the 6-yard line. The Bears’ Clay Cooper walked in the end zone for the score on the very next play. The extra point was good and the Bears took a 14–8 lead into half time.  

Ethan Mills get a safety for the Blue Devils with a sack of the Bears quarterback in the end zone. Moody cut the Bears lead to 14–10. The Bears answered with a 5-play 15-yard drive that ended with a 21-yard field goal that was good giving Plainview a 17 – 10 lead after three quarters.  

Moody got the ball with 6:27 left in the ball game at their own 44-yard line. The big play of the drive to set them in scoring position was a Carson Buckner to Ethan Jeff 37 yard completion.  Later in the drive Moody faced 4th and 10 at the Bears 14. Rashad Clark picks up the first down. Moody now had it first and goal at the Plainview 3 yard line. Clark scored from there on the very next play. The extra point was good and the game went to overtime tied at 17.  

Moody got the first possession in overtime and capitalized quickly. Buckner, with the keeper leaped into the end zone for the touchdown. The extra point was good and Moody had a 24–17 lead. The Bears drive took five plays, but the finally put the ball in the end zone. The Bears chose to go for 2 and got the conversion and a 25–24 hard fought victory over the Blue Devils.  

The Moody Blue Devil season has come to a close for 2017. The Blue Devils finish 4–6 (2-5). Moody will be in a new region next season in all sports after the AHSAA finishes with reclassification of other schools and redoing of all the regions. With the returning junior and sophomore classes, the future is bright for the Blue Devils.
