The Pell City Police Department is seeking the identity of the suspect who robbed BB&T Bank on First Avenue North in Pell City Friday.

The robbery occurred around 3 p.m. when the suspect, a black male, entered the bank lobby presumably armed. The suspect fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.

“We hope that the public will be able to identify the suspect from the photos. If they know him, they will recognize him,” Sgt. Don Newton, public information officer for the Pell City Police Department, said. “We are currently running down several leads in this ongoing investigation.”

Photos and details of the investigation have been shared with the FBI and other area law enforcement agencies, Newton said. The St. Clair Sheriff’s Office helicopter was used to aid in the search Friday afternoon, as well as K-9 units from the St. Clair County Correctional Facility.

No physical injuries were reported during the robbery. Two local daycare centers that are located near the bank were notified of the robbery in order to get children safely inside.
