The Pell City Police Department recently added new equipment including locking rifle racks and spike strips to its patrol cars as part of an ongoing plan to modernize and uniformly equip its fleet.
According to a release from Sgt. Don Newton, PCPD public information officer, Lt. Vince Warrington, Supervisor of the Special Operations and Detective units, has been working to make sure the equipment was ordered, installed and that officers are properly trained in its use.
“We’ve recently installed 20 locking rifle racks in patrol vehicles and are finalizing the issuing of spike strips to each shift and training officers in their proper deployment,” Warrington said. “We’ve also acquired more ‘pop-up’ traffic cones and electronic road safety flares for our patrol cars. All of our officers have also been issued Crime Scene marking tape for securing critical incident scenes.”
According to Operations Commander Capt. Josh Herren,“this is part of our overall strategic plan to equip our vehicles with the equipment that officers need. Additionally, we are striving to have all of the vehicles identically equipped and items uniformly installed so that any officer can get in any vehicle and have what they need to do their jobs safely and effectively.”
