Annual Lake Clean-up begins on March 17

Each year, the Logan Martin Lake Protection Association (LMLPA) organizes a Lake Clean-up on Logan Martin Lake, collecting tons of trash from shorelines and waterways.

This year, Mike Riley with LMLPA wants to get everyone involved.

“We have continued to grow,” Riley addressed the Pell City City Council on Monday. “We are making great strides to make the lake clean. With the water levels low, people are very aware of how clean the lake is.”

There are seven collection sites where volunteers can register, get bags, a t-shirt, and gloves, and return full Renew Our Rivers bags to collection sites. There are marked dumpsters at each location. Volunteers can pick-up trash from their own shoreline or any lake area of their choice.

Locations are Lakeside Landing, Clear Creek Marina, Poor House Branch Marina, Riverside Marina, Woods Surfside Marina, Pell City Civic Center, and Caribe Club and Marina.

Registration begins at collection site locations on March 17 from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. and clean up begins March 17 through March 24.

On Saturday, March 24 at noon, there will be a picnic for volunteers at Pell City Lakeside Park with free food and music. Admission will be the 2018 “Renew Our Rivers” t-shirts.

“Our goal is to have zero trash in the lake,” Riley said.

If any volunteers have a pontoon boat that can be used for trash pickup or for more information, they may contact Mike Riley at mike.riley@lmlpa.org or 205-531-2372.
