Birmingham Wind Ensemble to pay tribute to retiring Leeds band director

On August 26 at 7:30 pm the Leeds Arts Council will host the Birmingham Wind Ensemble, who is performing in honor of DeWitt Self, retired band director for Leeds High School for 35 years.

Mr. Self was also the former conductor of the Birmingham Wind Ensemble for 12 years. In December of 2013, Self announced his retirement.

The Birmingham Wind Ensemble is an all-volunteer group of musicians that perform modern and traditional music in the concert band repertoire. It is under the direction of Jack Rudisell, a Leeds native and former student of Self.

The event is free and open to the public. The Leeds Theatre and Arts Center is located at 8140 Parkway Drive in Historic Downtown Leeds. For more information call (205) 699-1892.
