Carla Callahan Kiwanis Teacher of the Month

Kiwanis Club of Pell City has named Carla Callahan of Eden Elementary School as Teacher of the Month.

“Teachers work hard. A lot of times we use our own money for classrooms and for our students. Teachers also work during the summer with professional development and in the classrooms,” Callahan said. “Thank you for recognizing teachers.”

Callahan, who received the award May 4, has been a first grade teacher at Eden Elementary School for four years. She has also worked with children through home, children’s church, children’s camps, and QUEST Kids Club.

Laurie Funderburg, principal of Eden Elementary School, also attended the May Kiwanis meeting to honor Callahan.

“Once you meet Carla, you will fall in love with her,” Funderburg said. “She is one of the hardest working teachers you will meet both in and out of the classroom.”

May is the final month for the 2016-2017 academic year. Kiwanis will resume nominations of Teacher of the Month in September. A teacher is nominated from specific Pell City area schools each month to be honored as the Kiwanis Teacher of the Month. Each nominee receives a plaque and $100 check to be used in their classrooms.

“We appreciate how nice you [Kiwanis] are to schools,” Funderburg said.
