Coal City Corner

The St. Clair Baptist Association annual meeting will be held at First Baptist Church of Asheville Monday, Oct. 26 at 6:30 p.m., one session only. No meal will be served. Dr. Danny Courson is the Associational Missions Strategist. Everyone is invited. Pastors and messengers are urged to attend.

Congratulations and happy anniversary to my great-niece and great-nephew, Ashley and Derrick Davison who celebrated their 10th on Oct. 10!

Our prayers and condolences are with the family of Larry Scott, 71, of Moody who passed away on Sept. 18 in the Birmingham Veterans Hospital. Larry was born to the late Ella Mae Hawkins, Scott DeLoach and the late Charles Sidney Scott on August 7, 1949. At the time of his birth, his parents and his older brother lived in Coal City. Larry served in the U.S. military service for over 26 years. He was in active combat in Vietnam and Afghanistan. He was a Christian and an active member of the Church of the Highlands in the Birmingham area until he became too disabled to attend.

He is survived by his wife, Lisa, four children, several grandchildren, three brothers, Roger Scott (Mary Ann), Dean Scott (Lori) and Dennis Scott (Dianne). He was my nephew. All of us who know and loved him will sadly miss him. Internment was in the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo.
