St. Clair County kicked off their 2017 United Way campaign with a goal of $455,000 for programs at 14 UW agencies in St. Clair County and 33 other agencies that serve St. Clair County residents. Jeff Thompson, Center for Education and Performing Arts Director and the 2017 St. Clair County Campaign Chair, made the announcement at the Pell City Rotary Meeting. 

“We get a 2-to-1 return on what we give,” said Thompson. “That is an amazing investment we are not going to see anywhere else.” Last year, St. Clair County raised more than $400,000 during the campaign and United Way invested over $910,000 in those 14 agencies in St. Clair County and 33 other agencies that serve St. Clair County residents. 

In attendance were past campaign chairpersons and board members who have seen the growth of St. Clair County, since it joined the United Way service area in 1991, and the community’s involvement and understanding of the services United Way provides for the county. 

“I’m thrilled to see how much the goal has grown over the years,” said June Brascho, a founding member of St. Clair County United Way. “We worked hard to raise that $55,000.” 

The goal in 1991 was $55,000 and this recent announcement shows how St. Clair County has grown and it shows in the amount of services UWCA provides in the county. United Way allocated agencies provided services to nearly 50,000 St. Clair County residents. 

“It’s very easy to believe that United Way works on the very outskirts of things and doesn’t have a direct impact on people’s daily lives,” said Thompson. “But, there’s nothing but positive change that comes from this organization and I’m glad to be a part of it.”
