Buy a turkey, ham, help Springville Fire Dept.

Springville Fire Department will once again be selling turkeys and hams this Thanksgiving.  Orders will be taken until Nov. 22.  Turkeys ranging from 12 to 16 pounds can be purchased either fried or smoked for $45 each.  For those who just have to have a turkey breast, they can be ordered smoked only for $40.

“Our smoked hams are becoming more popular,” fire chief Richard Harvey said.  They are $60 for a whole ham (15 to 18 pounds) and a half ham (8 to 12 pounds) is $40.  To place an order, call the fire station at 205-467-2703 or e-mail your order to springvillefd@windstream.net.

As always, all items will be hot and ready for pick-up Thanksgiving morning before   9 a.m.  If you need your order earlier, call SFD, they may be able to accommodate.

All the money accumulated from this fundraiser has been used to construct a training facility located behind Station No. 1. Harvey said this year SFD spent nearly $20,000 preparing the slab, purchasing fourteen steel-shipping containers, erecting the containers into a four-story tower, and welding each of the containers together.

“This year we are planning to have the containers prepped and painted so that exterior stairways can be installed,” he said. “It is because of the continued support of our community that we are able to add this valuable training tool to our facility.”
