What’s up in Odenville: Cupcakes for a cause

Hello readers! I’m back with this week’s edition of What’s Up in Odenville.

You know you spend too much time on the Internet when you can keep up with fads on social media. Lately, the popular thing going around social media is the “Straight Outta” sayings. I don’t know how this stuff gets started, but I will be the first to admit that I will jump on the bandwagon in a heartbeat from time to time, especially if it makes me laugh.

Some of you may not have a clue as to what I’m talking about and that’s okay. I can guarantee you two things though: I’m “straight outta” patience by the time Friday gets here and “straight outta” money by the time payday rolls around.

Let’s get to the news:

Community News:

Another legal driver hits the roads of Odenville. Shelby Waterhouse got her driver’s license and will be wearing the tread off her tires. Congrats Shelby!

Folks came out of the woodwork this past Saturday in support of Odenville Intermediate School’s beloved principal Constance Myers Seymour. A fundraiser was held at GiGi’s Cupcakes in Trussville to help raise funds for Seymour, who has been diagnosed with cancer and is currently undergoing her second round of chemo and radiation. All proceeds from the special cupcake made in honor of Constance will be given directly to her. For those that wanted to help but could not attend, a website has been created for donations at colepages.com/donate.html.

We have a new Lions Club in the area. Last Thursday members came together to approve the forming of Margaret Lions Club. Meeting will be held on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 7 p.m. at Mi Casita Mexican Restaurant in Odenville. Currently the club has 21 members but is still recruiting in the area. For more, call Pedro Pino at (205) 629-2909.

Our little buddy Colton Moore has a malfunction in his shunt and had to have surgery Tuesday morning. Doctors removed and replaced the existing shunt. Colton was born with Spina Bifida and has a tracheostomy in his windpipe. To date, Colton has had 28 surgeries but always comes through each one smiling. Doctors said that this surgery went well with no complications. Prayers for a speedy recovery Little Man!

The Second Annual Meet Me in the Park has been scheduled for Saturday Nov. 7. This year proceeds will benefit the Pray for Pray Foundation in honor of 11-year-old Payton Ray. Payton has Down syndrome and has been diagnosed with a blood disorder requiring a bone marrow transplant. Currently T-shirts are being sold to help with medical expenses, as well as a 5K Run and Paint for Payton. For more info on any of these fundraisers contact Jenny Wilkins at (205) 903-7255.

Community Sports:

Saints football kicked off last Thursday with a jamboree game against Saks. Our boys did very well, leading for most of the first half. Saints struggled in the second half finally falling to the Wildcats with a final of 42-24. This week Saints are on the road to John Carroll for their regular season opener. GO SAINTS!

Odenville Area Youth Association is needing help to make park improvements. So far, Jerry Rewis from H.R Plumbing is coming to the rescue. Rewis will donate his equipment and fuel to work on fields. Currently, the park has outgrown its facilities and is looking for someone who can write grants to help get funds in hopes of eventually building a new facility. Please contact Park President Marlon Mashburn if you can help in any way. (205) 540-8074
