Player Profile

Grade:  Junior.

Parents:  Greg and Pam Compton.

About her selection to the All-Star Team:  “It’s great.  It’s what I wanted to happen since I started playing in high school.”

Is she excited about the All-Star Game?:  “Heck, yeah.  I just hope I get some good field time.”

About Pell City’s appearance in the 6A playoffs:  “It’s the first time in school history we’ve advanced to the playoffs, so I’m excited about it.  And nervous.”

Her best game of the season:  The Lady Panthers’ 10-0 shutout of region opponent Oxford, in which she scored five goals.

Her regular season stats:  20 goals (including a hat trick during Pell City’s 4-1 win against Altamont, ending the regular season) and four assists.

When not on the soccer field:  She was on stage rehearsing for her role as the Wicked Witch of the West in the school’s production of “The Wizard of Oz.”  “I’ve always played the sweet little girl, but I get to be the villain this year.  I’m excited.  I get to throw fire.”

Her travel soccer team:  Birmingham United Soccer Association’s Team 94.

Back on the field:  Compton suffered a torn ACL in a state cup tournament last November.  “I was running for the ball, just like any other time, and I fell and felt this awful pain in my knee.  I got back up, walked off the field, and walked on it for a week.  When I did go the doctor, he said it was shredded.”  The injury sidelined her for the first few varsity games.

How Coach Jeff Samaranski describes her:  “She’s probably the best soccer player at Pell City High School, boys or girls.  She’s a natural leader and a very good motivator.  She’s a very smart player who knows how to read the game, and I certainly forsee her playing in college.”
