Odenville library hosts needlework display
The Odenville Public Library is displaying a beautiful collection of cross-stitch pieces completed by Odenville resident, Kathy Lee.
Lee has been a resident of Odenville since 1963 and comes by creative handwork naturally, as her mother Elsie Murphree worked as a tailor of men’s, women’s and children’s clothes for years.
Lee has been married to Bobby Lee for 36 years, and her passion for cross-stitch goes back to 1979. One of her works on display is patterned off of a Thomas Kincaid painting, which took her almost one year to complete.
Although the Kincaid cross-stitch is one of her many favorites, it, along with the many others on display also reflect her attention to fine detail, such as a beaded St. Nicholas design stitched on Belfast linen counting over two threads, and another containing seven Nutcracker characters in a row, just to name a few.
The display also contains a lighthouse design, and a Christmas ornament made from two pieces of perforated paper, which were then stitched together.
Over the years, Lee has given away many of her creations, among which were pieces containing Bible verses, reflecting her deep faith.
Her talent isn’t limited to cross-stitching, as Lee attends, and instructs others at A Stitch in Time, a knitting and crochet group which meets at the Odenville Library each Thursday, at 1 pm. The group welcomes anyone who wishes to either bring their current projects, or is interested in learning the different types of handwork, such as knitting, crochet, cross-stitch or embroidery. If you are looking for a place to learn, or pick up creative ideas, along with socializing with your community neighbor, this is the place to be.
