Pell City High School’s Maddox receives volleyball scholarship

Callie Maddox, a senior at Pell City High School, receives a volleyball scholarship to Judson College.

Maddox has been playing volleyball for six years, the past two years as captain. She also leads the team in aces, which are balls served but not returned. Maddox also plays with the Gadsden Volleyball Club.

“Callie has been a fantastic leader for us,” said PCHS volleyball coach Jan Smith. “She has worked very hard. We are thrilled and pray as she continues her journey.”

Cynthia White, volleyball coach at Judson College said that Maddox’s smile helped her stand out during the scholarship tryouts.

“A smile talks about who you are as a person,” said White. “It shows that you can persevere through situations and have a positive attitude.”

This is one of the first volleyball scholarships received by a PCHS student and coach Smith hopes it will not be the last.

Maddox plans to enter the pre-med program at Judson and become a general doctor.
