Coral Church honored as teen of the year
At the regularly scheduled Pell City Council meeting, Coral Church was honored for being named the Boys and Girls Club of Alabama’s teen of the year.
According to a press release shared from the Boys and Girls Club, Church will receive a $3000 scholarship courtesy of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Alabama and a $3000 college scholarship courtesy of the George V. Daniels Scholarship fund. Church will go on to compete for the State of Alabama Youth of the Year title and a $2500 scholarship from Boys and Girls Clubs of America.
She is currently a junior at Pell City High School. Church currently has a 4.47 GPA as a junior at Pell City High School. After high school, church plans to attend Jacksonville State University.
“Coral is an exceptional teen and leader,” said Leisa Smith, President/CEO of BGCCA. “Teens like Coral are deserving of this recognition because of the commitment it shows to themselves, their clubs and their community. We are so proud of Coral and BGCCA is looking forward to supporting her on the journey.”
Church is also a member of the Pell City dance line, vice president of the Student Government Association and a member of the English and Spanish National Honor society.
She has been a member of the Pell City Boys and Girls Club for eight years.
“The city is extremely proud of Miss Church for all of her accomplishments and wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors,” said Mayor Bill Pruitt, who presented the proclamation.
Council President Jud Alverson congratulated Church. He also thanked Travis Haynes for being in attendance and all of the work he does for the Boys and Girls Club.
In other business the council also:
- Approved a user agreement with Logan Martin Lakefest and Boatshow
- Recognized and approved Chamber of Commerce special events for 2022
- Approved the acceptance of a Body-Worn camera grant
- Approved a report of city maintained streets
- Authorized certain capital improvement projects for the 2022 fiscal year
