Lady Blue Devils fall on the road
The Moody Lady Blue Devils got their season started last Thursday night with a tough road trip across the bridge to Leeds to battle with the Lady Green Wave.
Mya Carrol scored the first points of the season for the Lady Blue Devils from the free throw line and Diamond Mastella scored the first bucket of the season to pull Moody within one point 4 – 3 early in the first quarter. The two teams battled back and forth the rest of the quarter with Moody grabbing a 7 – 4 lead. Leeds came right back and took a 9 – 7 lead and Mostella tied the game at 9 all. Leeds connected on a basket at the buzzer to give the Lady Green Wave an 11 – 9 lead after one quarter.
Leeds started the second quarter with an 8 – 5 run pushing their narrow lead to 19 – 14 over the Lady Blue Devils. Turnovers from the Lady Blue Devils led to the Leeds run in the second quarter. Leeds built a 28 – 15 lead throughout the quarter. Moody outscored Leeds 6 – 2 the last two minutes of the half trailing 30 – 21 at half time.
Leeds slowly put the game out of reach with a 7 – 0 to start the second half. There were 16 total points scored in the third quarter and Leeds had 12 of them. Leeds led 42 – 25 after three quarters.
Moody started the fourth quarter with an 11 – 5 run to cut the Green Wave lead down to 11 points 47 – 36. Leeds pulled away to win by 12 points 54 – 42 over the Lady Blue Devils.
Ellington led the Green Wave with 14 points, with 12 of those points coming from the free throw line.
Moody was led by Diamond Mostella’s 20 points and Mya Carroll’s 10 points.
The Lady Blue Devils dropped their home opener to county rival Ashville last Friday night.
Ryleigh Ward led The Ashville Lady Bulldogs with 21 points, (17 from the freethrow line) and Erica Williams dropped in 9 points in the 43 – 34 win over the Lady Blue Devils. Moody was led in scoring by Diamond Mostella’s 10 points. Lilly Crowe and Mya Carroll each dropped in 7 points to help lead the Lady Blue Devils.
