Pell City Panthers Finish 5-5
Pell City controlled the first half of last Friday night’s home game against the Hueytown Golden Gophers and led 21-7 at halftime. Hueytown blew the second half open with an aggressive ground attack, rushing for 319 yards in the second half alone. The Golden Gophers reeled off 33 points and controlled the clock in the Panthers final game of the year.
The Panthers started fast, taking the opening kickoff and scoring on a 90-yard drive. Tommy Moss caught a 59-yard touchdown pass from Elliot Wilson and the PAT from Kegan Gaither was good giving Pell City a 7-0 lead with 8:32 left in the first quarter.
Hueytown went three-and-out on the next possession. After the Golden Gopher punt, Wilson and Moss hooked up again after a long drive for a 26-yard touchdown. The point after was good giving the Panthers a 14-0 lead with a minute left in the first quarter.
Hueytown scored early in the second quarter on a long touchdown run. The score was 14-7 with 11:30 left in the first half.
After trading punts, the Panthers scored on a 21-yard touchdown run by Tarez Elston. The Gaither PAT put Pell City ahead 21-7 at the half.
Hueytown dominated the second half and the Panthers managed only a single score. Wilson hit Jordan Alverson for a 15-yard touchdown on the final play of the game making the score 40-27.
Wilson was 15-25 passing for 215 yards and three scores. He is over the 3,000-yard mark in total offense. Moss had 12 receptions for 200 yards and two scores. He has 97 career catches for 1,509 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Zack White led the defense this year with 106 tackles, seven sacks and 13 tackles for a loss. Clinton Law finished the year with seven interceptions.
