County history fair winners
The St. Clair County Historical Society (SCCHS) recently held its 24 Annual Fourth Grade History Fair. Winners and honorable mentions were awarded at Fortson Museum in Odenville.
Encouraging young minds to learn about their county, the intent of the project is to get students involved in hands-on activity by conducting historical research and creative thinking.
County wide, 11 schools participated in this year’s history fair.
Complimenting the students on their work, Ann Coupland, treasurer of the SCCHS, said, “I’ve lived in St. Clair County all my life and I see projects here today about historical things I’ve never seen.
Honorable mention winners were Gracy Kapoor from Moody Middle, Julie Nelson from Ragland Elementary, Derrick Walker from Steele, Sarah White of Crossroads Christian, Gage Lane of Coosa Valley, Malik Jordan from Eden Elementary, Kassidi Arnold from Odenville Intermediate and Scout Coker of Ashville Elementary.
Third place winner was Gabrielle Hanks from Iola Roberts Elementary for her depiction of historical downtown Pell City. Second place went to Carson Land of Springville Elementary School who told the story of his house that was once a dogtrot homestead. And the first place winner of the 24 Annual Fourth Grade History Fair was Catherine Edwards from Margaret Elementary School for her project on the Acmar Commissary.
