Argo zoning board votes on manufactured homes
Tuesday night the zoning board held a public hearing and met to vote on rezoning for manufactured homes in Argo.
Sharon Sherritt, a member of the manufactured homes zoning committee said the committee met numerous times to work on setting up guidelines for manufactured homes zoning, and explained that the committee tried to take into account what everyone had to say about the matter. “We did our best to do what our town expected of us.”
Some residents still expressed dissatisfaction with the new regulations, saying there was no need to establish a designated area for manufactured homes.
“I don’t see a reason for segregating mobile homes,” Frank Peoples said. “There’s legal and there’s right. I don’t think this is right. If people want to put up mobile homes, I say go for it.”
Zoning Board Chairman Jim Link said Argo initially never had zoning for manufactured homes, but the proposed map is a redrafted one that reflects a reduction in the proposed zoning area. “We reduced it to satisfy the majority,” Link said.
Under the new regulations, anyone who owns a manufactured home is allowed to keep it forever. “If you remove a manufactured home from its original location, it must comply with Section 517,” Link said.
The board voted to adopt Ordinance 2008-210, an amendment to Section 517 of the ordinance and voted on the map that establishes zoning on manufactured homes. All three proposals will go before the city council to be voted on following a second public hearing.
