Aaron’s Hope gives life to struggling men
A year and a half after a Coal City man took his life after a longtime battle with drug addiction, two St. Clair County men have benefitted from a treatment center established in his honor.
Aaron’s Hope, a first-of-its-kind faith-based drug rehabilitation program that recently opened in St. Clair County, saw its first two patients graduate.
For six months to a year, men who are cared for at Aaron’s Hope take part in individualized treatment plans, including anger management, Celebrate Recover and Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, according to Donna Kitchens, executive director of Aaron’s Hope. Staff also help the men obtain their GEDs and find jobs.
“We strive to help men as they recover from life-controlling addiction, to a life free from addiction and able to function as a productive member of society,” Kitchens said.
Brian, the first graduate from Aaron’s Hope, came to treatment on his own accord, and was thankful for the time invested in his recovery.
“Being at Aaron’s Hope taught me how to live a normal life, free from alcohol. I don’t regret the time I spent there. I’m glad I made the decision to come,” he said.
Michael graduated a few days after Brian, and echoed similar feelings about his time spent.
“Aaron’s Hope changed my life in more ways than one. It helped me become closer to God and get my life back on track,” he explained.
