The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Big Canoe Creek Nature Preserve Director Doug Morrison reintroduced more than 100 endangered Canoe Creek Clubshell mussels (Pleurobema Athearni) and 100 Coosa Mocassinshell mussels (Medionidus parvulus) in Big Canoe Creek at the site of the removed dam. The new mussels are tagged and will be monitored by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for further study and preservation.

Springville Fire Chief Richard Harvey was the recipient of the St Clair County EMS Legacy award on Sept. 14. Chief Harvey has dedicated his life to an unwavering commitment to public safety, emergency medical services and education.

Congratulations to St Clair County Schools teacher Jess Nelson for writing and receiving the Youth Literacy Grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation on Sept. 14. The grant awarded $3,500 that will be used for Spanish and bilingual books in the libraries and teaching resources for reading interventionists. Nelson is the ESL teacher and EdStream Director for many area schools in St Clair County.

Nichols Nook Coffee House hosted a book signing with local author and meteorologist James Spann on Saturday, Sept. 16. Spann autographed many of his books, including, “All You Can Do Is Pray,” “Weathering Life,” “Benny and Chipper,” “The Wonder of Thunder and Subunny.”

Springvillians have been finding little crocheted ghosts around town. Anna Bergeron found a “Little Boo” on Main Street on Sept. 15. It’s a spooky mystery as to who put them around town.

The Springville Public Library will host an author meet and greet, book signing, and reception on Oct. 7 at 11 a.m. where local author, Sally Self, will be presenting her debut novel, Frost and Fervor. Self, a licensed professional counselor, was written for teens and young adults dealing with anxiety and depression. Space is limited so please call 205-467-2339 register.
