What’s up in Odenville: The countdown to Thanksgiving has officially begun

Hello, Readers! I’m back with this week’s edition of “What’s Up in Odenville.”

Well folks, we are one week away from Thanksgiving and stretchy pants! I am so looking forward to feasting on some fried turkey and spending some much needed time with family. Im not looking forward to the Black Friday shopping though. I dont do well in all of the chaos. Im from Centerpoint and all of us Centerpoint girls grew up scrappy. We will take off our shoes and earrings in a heartbeat. The last thing I need is to have my mugshot on the local news, so I will wait until everything settles down and then go shop. Its better this way.

Let’s get to the news…

The Pell City High School Drama Department’s will have a production of The Magic Treehouse: A Ghost Tale for Mr. Dickens. The play opens Thursday, Nov. 17 at The Center for Education and Performing Arts.“It’s a really fun show, and the music will stay with you,” said Trey Lee, who plays the title character, Charles Dickens. “It also teaches a great lesson – to relish the gifts you have and use them to better the world.” Ghost Tale kicks off on Thursday, November 17 at 7 p.m. in the CEPA Theater. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children at the door. The play runs through Sunday, Nov. 20. Mark your calendars because The Second Annual Christmas in the Park will be held Sunday Dec. 4 starting at 4 p.m. at Odenville City Park. We will have food available for purchase, entertainment, a tree lighting and a movie! This is a free event, with a minimal cost for concessions. We will have a box to drop off an unwrapped toy for Cops for Tots as well as a donation bucket. If you would like to participate (help decorate, set up a booth or be entertainment) please call Trese at (205) 542-3176 or David Johnsey at (205) 516-8853.

The Christmas Parade has been scheduled for Tuesday Dec. 6, and the theme this year will be “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas”. Every year the parade gets longer and the floats more creative. The entry fee to participate is $5 per parade participant, excluding first responders. Santa will be making his return also. I want to see some over-the-top floats this year. Awards will be given for the top three. The City of Odenville will also host a Santa meet and greet immediately after the parade. Stop by City Hall and enjoy refreshments and take a pic with Santa!

The Kurly Q’s Square Dance Club will be hosting The Warblers on Friday, Dec.r 9 at OMS Purser-Ray Hall from 7-9 p.m. and tickets are $12 per person. The Warblers are a male choral group organized in 1929 at Woodlawn High School in Birmingham. They will be performing traditional songs of long ago and also Christmas music. For additional information/tickets call (205) 525-5128, (205) 640-8939 or (205) 467-6686.

Everyone please keep in mind that we are still under a mandatory no burn ban. Please be careful and do not have any campfires or throw out lit cigarettes.

Remember to shop local this holiday season! There are a ton of fantastic small business located in our town that you can shop at, and keep your spending dollars in our town.
