What’s Up in Odenville: Congrats to our local fishing pro
Hello readers! I’m back with this week’s edition of “What’s Up in Odenville.”
Well. The search is over. After weeks looking and hours spent in the dressing room, I FINALLY found it.
I am the proud owner of a new swim suit. It was looking pretty bleak there for a while and then, as if it fell from the heavens just for me, like magic it appeared. Also, just like magic, I watched a bulk of the money I had in my wallet DISAPPEAR. Lucky for me the hubz gets that I am high-maintenance and loves me in spite of that one small shortcoming — so he only cringed for a second.
Let’s get to the news…

Odenville’s Quaker State fishing pro Scott “Hammerbury” Canterbury earned his first tour win on Beaver Lake this past weekend. Canterbury placed second in several tournaments but was unable to reel in a win. “This feels awesome,” Canterbury said moments after winning. “This is what I’ve always wanted. I mean the money is great, but that trophy, I’ll always have that. I’ll spend the money, but I’ll have the trophy forever.” Congratulations Scott Canterbury (and Dixie Skinner Canterbury) for a long overdue win!
Sweet Reunion: The Peoples’ Family lost their beloved pet “Gump” this past weekend. Gump had been missing since Friday, April 15 near the Twelve Oaks subdivision off US 411 in Odenville. Glen, Tammy and daughter Faith were so sad and hoping for Gump’s return — and their prayers were answered. After having been missing for days, Gump arrived home unharmed and ready to play. So glad you got your fur baby back!!
Kaitlin Davis celebrated her 8th birthday with an 1980s-themed eighth birthday party at Trussville Playstation Saturday night (on her actual birthday). It was a private party, so the whole place was rockin’ with big hair, neon and tunes from the 80s decade. Even the adults got in on the 80s action with close to 40 family and friends on hand to celebrate with her. Kaitlin says “I had a totally rad party, and I am happy so many people came to celebrate with me!” We are too Kaitlin!
School News

Congrats to 9th grader Skylar Mizzell on being awarded the Matt Hicks Man Of Character Award. This is the first such award bearing that title. New SCCHS wrestling coach Greg Jefcoat selected Skylar for this award, and former SCCHS wrestling coach Matt Hicks presented the award. Skylar’s dad, Dewayne, is a volunteer for the team and was extremely moved by all the wonderful things Coach Hicks had to say. “The best part was hearing the man for which it is named speak of my son. You never realize if you’re doing a good job as a parent, because most of us feel that we’re somehow [messing] it up. Coach Hicks had many nice things to say and for that, myself and my wife are so grateful.” Your community is SO proud of you!
The SCCHS Track Team competed in a track meet in Mountain Brook this past weekend. It was a two day event, and saw Ben Lee place second in the long jump category.
