St. Clair preschool receives funds to enhance learning experience

Union State Bank of Ashville presented St. Clair County Headstart with a check earlier this week, totalling almost $1,500. The bank has been holding a “Friends for Headstart” fundraiser in conjunction with the school’s 50th anniversary.

“We are involved in a lot of national fundraisers,” Todd Seay, Vice Chairman of the Union State Board of Directors said. “We really wanted to be involved with a local organization in our community and we thought Headstart was the perfect choice.”

The preschool plans on using the donation to enhance the overall classroom experience. The funds will go towards the purchase of new curriculum and other teaching materials for teachers to use in their classrooms.

“All funds are going to help our students,” Executive Director Latoya Orr said. “We are so excited for the additions this fundraiser will bring to our classrooms.”

The bank hosted the fundraiser inside their location and then sold concessions during the Ashville High School Homecoming parade. According to Seay, the bank felt that giving back to the children was a great way to give back to the community.

“We are committed to the students here and their academic futures,” Orr said. “They are going to benefit so much from this and we are very appreciative of Union State and their dedication to our community.”
