Community mourns passing of Odenville Principal Constance Seymour

On Feb. 4, cancer claimed the life of beloved Odenville educator Constance Seymour.

Visitation will be held Feb. 8 at Bethel Baptist Church from 5-8 p.m. The service will be Feb. 9 at 3 p.m. at Bethel Baptist, with burial following at Ebenezer Methodist Church.

Seymour, 46, was the principal of Odenville Intermediate School after teaching in the school system for years. A St. Clair County native, she graduated St. Clair County High School in 1987. She was the mother of two sons, Evan, 17, and Tyne, 12.

Seymour was diagnosed with cervical cancer 18 months ago and underwent multiple rounds of treatment at Cancer Treatment Centers of America as needed. Following the start of her second round in the summer of 2015, Seymour didn’t resume her responsibilities as principal.

Students and faculty at Odenville Intermediate took every opportunity to show Seymour their support throughout her battle. In addition to taking donations to help fund treatments, the school hosted events dedicated to their principal. Last year, when Seymour was first diagnosed, they held an ice bucket challenge and donated the proceeds to the American Cancer Society.

“Everyone is dedicated to showing her our support and you can see that attitude throughout the entire community,” Assistant Principal John Mark Ford said during her second round of treatment. “People are pouring out their hearts for her, and that really says something about the woman she is and the community she lives in.”

The family requests that any donations made in her honor be made to the American Cancer Society or the St. Clair County Education Foundation
