Week 9: Pell City highlights and previews

Chelsea 17 Pell City 16

The Panthers’ playoff hopes died in Chelsea last Friday off the foot of Hornets’ kicker Tyler Thomas, who made a 38 yard field goal in the last minute of the game to secure the win over Pell City.

After spotting Chelsea a 7-0 lead, Pell City scored two touchdowns in the second quarter. Back-to-back second quarter touchdowns gave the visiting Panthers a 13-7 lead at the break. In the fourth quarter placekicker Sergio Alvarez added three points to give Pell City a 16-7 lead late in the game.

Week 9 Matchup: Pell City (3-5) vs. Valley (3-5)

The Valley Rams’ hope to secure the final playoff spot in Region 3 comes against Pell City.  The Panthers will be facing a Jekyll-and-Hyde team – a team that opens up a lot of scoring opportunities off the legs of their athletic quarterback T.J. Lowe, but also a team that can shutdown and get steamrolled when things don’t go their way, evidenced by their 71-0 loss to Chelsea and their 56-0 loss against Benjamin Russell these last two weeks. Valley is spiraling, and the Panthers can spoil their playoff hopes Friday if they get up on the Rams early and stay there.
