The Moody Blue Devils scored early and often in their first Fall Jamboree in almost seven years.  Moody shut out the Douglas Eagles 48 – 0 in the varsity game, and 7 – 0 in the JV game.  Moody will hit the road for opening game against the Etowah County Blue Devils. 

The Eagles got the football to start the game, and it did not take long for the Moody defense to make its presence known.  Christian Archer got a huge hit in the backfield for the first big hit of the season.  Freshman Logan Suggs followed with a big hit, but the ball fell forward to give the Eagles a first down.  Junior linebacker Mason Shockley made his way into the backfield for a big tackle for loss.  Tyler Miller and Joel McCormick combined to sack the Eagles quarterback for a big 8-yard loss forcing a punt. 

Moody started their first drive of the night on their own 44-yard line.  Terrance Moore started the drive with a four-yard run.  On the next play, the combination of Karson Buckner to Justin Blankenship got warmed up with a big pass play.  Tack on a facemask penalty by the Eagles and Moody was all of a sudden at the Douglas 28-yard line. With some hard running on back-to-back plays Moody was at the three yard line.  Rashad Clark scored from three yards out. The extra point was good and Moody was on the board 7 – 0 with 5:50 left in the quarter. 

Back-to-back tackles in the backfield for Joel McCormick and Logan Suggs pinned the Eagles offense deep, forcing them to punt.  Moody was first and 10 at the Douglas 48.  Two plays into the drive Karson Buckner connected with Jayiveon Carol for a 19-yard gain to the 29-yard line. Buckner connected with Justin Blankenship for a 29-yard score. The extra point was good and Moody now led 14 – 0 with 2:43 left in the quarter.

The defense stepped up once again to stop the Eagle offense.  Moody’s Tyler took the ball out of a would be receivers hands for a Blue Devil Interception.  Moody took over at the Douglas 32 yard line.  On the very next play Buckner struck in the air once again, this time connecting with Cyric Williams for the 32 yard touchdown.  The extra point was missed, but Moody was ahead 20 – 0 after the first quarter. 

Terrance Moore had the only score from either team in the second quarter with an 11 yard touchdown to give Moody a 27 – 0 lead at half time.

Moody got the ball to start the second half and it only took three plays to get into the end zone.  Terrance Moore had runs of 13 and 18 yards and Tykhi Wesley added a nine yard run to set Moody up at the Douglas 33 yard line.   Buckner then closed the drive with a 33 yard strike to Cyric Williams for a score.  The extra point was good and Moody’s lead ballooned to 34 – 0.

Back up quarterback Josh Struggs got in on the passing action with a 23 yard touchdown pass to Tayib Perry to put at the Douglas 36 yard line.  Freshman Nick Burrell showed off his speed with a 36 yard touchdown to put Moody up 41 – 0.  The Moody Defense got on the board later in the quarter thanks to Josh Nollinger’s fumble recovery in the end zone for a score.  That was the end of the scoring for the varsity with Moody controlling the game 48 – 0. 

Burrell scored once more in the 4^th quarter of the JV portion of the game. 

All in all it was a great night for the Moody Blue Devils, but the task gets tough right off the top with a trip to Etowah County to battle their version of the Blue Devils.  Etowah knocked off rival Gadsden City last Friday night for the first time in their schools history.  After a trip to Etowah, Moody will return home for a two week home stand against rival St. Clair County and Sylacauga.  Kick off for tomorrow night’s game at Etowah is 7 p.m.
