Week 11: Pell City highlights and playoff previews

Oak Mountain 20 Pell City 14

Two touchdown passes by Oak Mountain’s Warren Shader and a drive-killing interception by the Eagles at the end of the first half were key moments in a hard-fought loss in the Panthers final game.

The Eagles managed to score 13 unanswered points in the second half, but Pell City rallied back with quarterback Jermaine Ross scored on a 15-yard touchdown midway through the fourth quarter to close the lead to within six. Oak Mountain’s defense managed to hold off a late drive by the Panthers to preserve the victory despite Ross’ incredible 210-yard rushing performance on the night.

Next week Pell City travels to Spanish Fort for its first-round playoff game.

First Round Playoff Preview – Pell City (4-6) @ Spanish Fort (10-0)

Pell City will be facing an undefeated Spanish Fort team that made Max Preps ‘Fab 5’ top teams in Alabama at the season’s start and is currently ranked #2 in the Alabama Sports Writers’ Association poll. The Toros can scorch you through the air, with senior quarterback Tyler Johnson (#5 rated quarterback in the state) having already thrown for over 2,500 yards and 27 touchdowns this season, with only five interceptions. After stretching the secondary, the running lanes open up for senior tailback Cam Harrison, who is averaging 7.7 yards-per-rush.

Johnson has no shortage of targets, with his best two being senior deep-threat Javon Brown and junior Logan Morgan.
