PCHS golfer signs with Snead State Community College
On April 13, Tucker Wilder committed to Snead State Community College on a golf scholarship. The Pell City High School student has been golfing his entire life, and began seriously competing his ninth grade year. He is eager for the chance to play at the collegiate level.
“I like Snead State a lot and am really looking forward to playing on the next level,” Tucker Wilder said. “It’s got a good golf program and I’m happy to be a part of it.”
He believes that his current coach has played a big role in his success as a golfer.
“Coach has gotten me into a lot of big tournaments lately and that helps my game,” Wilder said. “Playing better courses make better golfers.”
PCHS golf coach Wayne Lee is confident Wilder will do well at Snead and said that receiving a scholarship is a big accomplishment in golf.
“Getting a golf scholarship is very rare, there are not a lot out there and you need to play well at the right tournament where the coaches can see your skills,” Lee said. “I’m absolutely proud of him and I can’t wait to see what he does at the next level.”
Wilder was offered a full-ride scholarship and will join Coach Chuck Kalanick and the rest of the Snead State golf team in the fall.
“I’m so proud of Tucker,” Pell City School System Superintendent Michael Barber said. “I’m grateful to Snead State for recognizing his talent and giving him this opportunity.”
