What’s up in Odenville: SCCHS coach moves to Oxford
Hello Readers! I’m back with this week’s edition of “What’s Up in Odenville.”
Hope everyone had a safe and Happy Memorial Day celebrating and remembering those who fought for our freedoms and lost the battle.
Speaking of battles, I’m waging an all-out war on my boss, Adam Stocks. Most of you may know that I work for 94.1 The River in Pell City and I write this column and a side gig. Adam owns the station and has made it his life’s entertainment to scare the bejesus out of me on a semi-weekly basis. One would think I would know it’s coming. But as I tell folks daily, I’m always in “The Zone.” This past week, I took the advice of some of our listeners and attempted to retaliate. I got up and went to work extra early, my husband dropped me off and took my car so Adam wouldn’t know I was there. I anxiously hid in waiting. After a few minutes of hiding, Brother Jacky from Eden Westside came to record his Family Values segment he does each Wednesday and asked what I was doing. I gave him the scoop and he agreed it was payback time for one Adam Stocks. Finally, here comes Adam through the front door and out I jump like a ninja with a large air horn and press the nozzle. It made this awful, loud noise and the only thing I succeeded in doing was scaring myself and poor Brother Jacky – while Adam strolled right on by as if I hadn’t done a thing. Talk about an epic fail! Completely backfired. So, for those of you reading this and want to help me really get him back, please email me your ideas at the address below so I can start the process.
Let’s get to the news:
Former SCCHS Wrestling Coach and Asst. Football Coach Matt Hicks has another new gig! Coach Hicks left SCCHS with a 2011 State Championship in class 1A-4A and coached for two years at Leeds High School where he led the Green Wave to back-to back state championships in Class 1A-5A. Now, Hicks has just accepted a position with the Oxford Yellow Jackets starting this coming 2016-2017 school year. Congrats Coach Hicks! We wish you all the best!
Congrats to Trent Wyatt who was the recipient of the OMS Vice Principal’s Award, consisting of a plaque and iPad, given by Vice Principal Shane Parker. Before announcing the winner, Mr. Parker told the attendees that he looked forward to seeing Trent each day and hearing his stories of what he wanted to be or make or what he had found, and that he considered Trent as one of his own. It’s truly rare that you find a student/teacher with a bond that strong and it was an emotional moment for everyone. Thank you Mr. Parker, for taking a special interest in a child that needed it. You will be rewarded tenfold.
Majestic Outdoors Ministries hosted the Sixth Annual Field Day this past weekend. Over 60 kids between the ages of 8-18 learned about tree stand safety, gun safety, archery, skeet shooting and many more outdoor activities.
