Local law enforcement joins U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary for first multi-agency event
The U.S. Coast Guard, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), Lincoln Fire and Rescue, New London Fire, Pell City Police and St. Clair County Sheriff will come together for this first time ever event to showcase area on the water safety resources, improve on the water effectiveness and readiness, and improve inter-operability for the Logan Martin Lake community.
This inter-agency training will make the lake safer by more effectively using the best of each agency and provide the best possible services to the lake community on August 3 – 5.
The U.S. Coast Guard active duty from Demopolis and Dauphin Island will be participating in the training exercises. Exercises will include navigation, fire fighting, air search, search and rescue, water rescue, towing, and boating skills. Each partner agency will be demonstrating their skills and normal duties on the water. The tasks will be lead by a joint command center to validate and improve communication.
This event will help keep Logan Martin safe and fun on a day-to-day basis as well as in the event of a larger emergency. The result will allow the first responders to more efficiently use available resources to provide the best possible services to the lake residents.
Classroom activities will be hosted at the New London Fire Station and the on the water exercises can be observed at the Logan Martin Dam park, Birmingham Sailing Club, and Pell City Lakeside Park. Boaters may observe the on the water exercises at these locations on Saturday and Sunday.
About the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary
The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is a volunteer extension of the Coast Guard charged with patrolling and providing boating safety on Logan Martin and Lay lakes.
Vessel safety checks, harbor patrols, safe boating courses, search and rescue, marine environmental protection, ATON management, and food services are just a few of the services provided by the Auxiliary.
Each year Auxiliarists volunteer more than two million hours benefiting boaters and their families.
About Alabama Law Enforcement Agency
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) was created by Act 2013-67 and represents the consolidation and realignment of 12 state law enforcement agencies/functions into one entity. The marine police serve Logan Martin. ALEA is responsible for the functions and missions of the Alabama Department of Homeland Security, Department of Public Safety, Alabama Bureau of Investigation, Fusion Center, Criminal Justice Information Center, Marine Police, Alcoholic Beverage Control Board Enforcement Division, Department of Revenue Enforcement, Forestry Commission Investigations, Agriculture and Industry Investigations, Public Service Commission Enforcement, and Office of Prosecution Services Computer Forensic Laboratories.
The Mission of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is to efficiently provide quality service, protection, and safety for the State of Alabama through the utilization of consolidated law enforcement, investigative, and support services. The Marine Police also are responsible for the permitting of the state and local ATONs on Logan Martin Lake.
About Lincoln Fire and Rescue
The Lincoln Fire & Rescue, Lincoln, Alabama, started as a volunteer department providing fire protection for the citizens until 1976. During that year, the department became a full-time, paid staff department. Our ambulance service was added in the same year and remains the only ambulance service in the north end of the county. For chemical and hazardous material events, LFR have a fully equipped HAZ-MAT unit that can be deployed within the city or to neighboring communities to assist with these types of accidents.
About New London Fire
New London Water Sewer & Fire in Cropwell, Alabama, was established in 1981 and serves customers in Cropwell and parts of Vincent, Alabama. New London Volunteer Fire Department maintains a pump and rescue boat on Logan Martin lake. It can be used for on the water rescues and/or water pumping for house fires.
About Pell City Police

The PCP seeks to develop a highly trained and prepared professional organization with the ethics, integrity, and dedication to enforce and follow the laws and ordinances as strictly defined by the courts as intended by the framers of the Constitution of the United States of America.
The Department maintains a patrol boat on Logan Martin lake.

About Trent Richardson
Richardson is part of local Coast Guard Auxiliary leadership. He is a Coxswain that maintains a USCGA Facility presence on Logan Martin and Lay Lake. His crew recently worked with the active duty at Gulf Port Station to achieve the Operation Excellence Award. He has logged thousands of hours on inland lakes and offshore using both power boats and sail boats. He has competitively raced J22 sailboats out of the Birmingham Sailing Club.
