Riverside Poker Run

Riverside Beautification Organization’s biggest event is just around the corner and just up the river.

Spend your Saturday on the river with family and friends supporting a good cause. Riverside’s Eighth Annual Poker Run is slated for Saturday, June 18 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. beginning at Riverside Landing.

Registration will be June 17 at 7 p.m. or the day of the event, beginning at 10 a.m. The fee to enter is $15. That includes a map of the course.

The Poker Run involves players going out on the river and stopping at designated piers to collect playing cards. After seven stops over eight miles of shoreline, they will put together the best poker hand they can and return to the starting point. The winner, runner-up and third place finishers will receive prizes.

The money raised through the event goes to the Riverside Beautification Organization. They work to improve the community and have funded parks, landscaping and the city’s welcome sign.

“This is the main money-making endeavor for the organization,” Riverside Major Rusty Jessup said. “They do wonderful things for Riverside and it’s great to see people come out and support them.”

This year, the event is open to people who do not have access to their own boat. For $10, they can ride on the Coosa Queen, which will take players to the designated piers.

“It’s just a really fun day for everyone that takes part in it,” Jessup said. “It gives people a chance to explore our river and maybe see parts of it that they haven’t been on before. It’s a very worth-while event and the money that is raised all goes to do good things in our community.”

The event begins and ends at Riverside Landing, located across from City Hall. There will be a DJ, concessions and door prizes. For more information on the Riverside Beautification Organization, find them on Facebook.
