Monster Mash Dash a ‘smashing success’
Super heroes, princesses, ghouls and fun run/5K participants of all kinds helped make the 2nd Annual Monster Mash Dash 5K/Fun Run a success! This fundraiser put on by the Leeds Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) benefits the school’s technology initiative.
Students not only have the chance to excel in the classroom, but the start of school has afforded LES students the time to get healthy with Run Club. LES fourth grade teachers Julia Sanders and Candace Golden served as this year’s sponsors, overseeing 175 student runners. Even Mrs. Golden’s dad, Bill Jarrett, got in on the fun as he provided each child in the Run Club with a shirt.
This year’s Monster Mash Dash Fun Run had approximately 270 student runners while the Monster Mash Dash 5K had approximately 150 runners. The heightened number of student runners can in some way be attributed to the teachers, as those with the most class participants got slimed at the Monster Mash Dash Pep Rally!
Not only did the teachers get slimed, both Lisa Shaddix, LES principal, and Wes Graham, assistant principal at LES, were slimed too. Pre-K teacher Collette Pledger, Kindergarten teacher Kathryn Phillips, First Grade Teacher Keeley Wadsworth, Second Grade Teacher Leslie Miller, Third Grade Teacher Lauren Prickett and Fourth Grade Teacher Allison Etheredge all were slimed as well.
The success of this year’s Monster Mash Dash was due to the efforts of so many. Part of that success afforded Shaddix and Graham to enjoy their first radio experiences at 94.1 The River and 88.1 Revocation Radio as they got to spread the word about Monster Mash Dash with each station’s listeners.
Honored to have the support of businesses throughout the Leeds community and its neighboring areas, Shaddix wanted to extend her thanks for making the 2nd Annual Monster Mash Dash 5K/Fun Run, a smashing success.
“Thank you to our LES PTO board and the teachers at LES. They have put in countless hours planning and organizing this event. A special thanks to all the LMS and LHS student volunteers, Officer Hagan, the Leeds Fire and Rescue and the Resurrection Riders who kicked off our event,” Shaddix said. “This is truly a community event, one which we hope continues to grow and support Leeds Elementary School students and staff.”
