PCPD Chief recipient of regional polygraph examiners award
The 40th annual Alabama Association of Polygraph Examiner’s Training Conference was the largest attended in the association’s history last week. Examiners from seven states convened to complete their annual mandatory training updates and study the latest research in forensic polygraph science.
Chief Greg Turley and Captain Josh Herren, both examiners for the Pell City Police Department, attended the training conference. During the awards ceremony at the conference, Chief Turley was awarded the Pyron G “Pete” Pound Jr. Leadership Award. This award was given based on nominations from all of the examiners throughout the State. The memorial award is “in grateful appreciation for exemplifying the goals, objectives, and ideas of the association.”
Chief Turley said he was honored to receive the award, especially based on the fact that Mr. Pound was widely known as one of the most amazing men of integrity in the polygraph field. Before his passing in 2001, Mr. Pound took Chief Turley under his wing to mentor him through the scientific art of polygraph and interviews and interrogations after Chief Turley completed his basic and advanced training.
Chief Turley was thankful to be able to receive such invaluable mentoring from men such as Mr. Pound. “It has allowed us to solve some of the most complex cases such as sex crimes, burglaries, and cases involving children that cannot speak for themselves. Like Mr. Pound, my goal is to pass on everything I have learned from incredible examiners like him, and the thousands of exams I’ve given throughout my career, to the next generation of examiners.”
Pell City Police has used polygraph since 1998 to solve several hundreds of criminal cases for the city and the surrounding areas since that time. Chief Turley also sits on the States Polygraph Licensing Board.
