PCPD Sergeant Samuel McGuffie recognized with creation of new rank
Pell City Police Chief Greg Turley announces the creation of a recognition rank of Senior Sergeant within the police department. This addition to the rank of Sergeant was created to recognize the accomplishments and dedication of Sergeant Samuel McGuffie, who has been with the department since 1993. According to Turley, “We wanted to come up with a way to properly recognize the dedication Sergeant McGuffie has shown to our department and the citizens of Pell City. Staff members got together and came up with the idea of creating the position of Senior Sergeant”. Police Captain Josh Herren said “Sam is not only our most senior Sergeant, having been promoted to Sergeant in 1999, he is the most senior officer in our entire department.”
Sergeant McGuffie stated “I am humbled and honored by this and I appreciate the recognition. I think it is great that the department has come up with a way to recognize officers’ service”. Sergeant McGuffie is currently serving as a Patrol Sergeant and has previously served as Special Operations Sergeant. McGuffie also served with the 30th Judicial Task Force and was on the St. Clair County SWAT team before helping to create a SWAT team for Pell City.
Captain Herren said that there will only be one Senior Sergeant within the department at any time.
