Pell City Fire Department training heats up
Firefighting can be a dangerous job and a first responder’s training must prepare them for whatever they may face in the line of duty.
For three weeks Pell City’s fire department underwent firefighter survival training, fire-ground communications scenarios and basic fire attack scenarios at a home in Glen City.
Former Pell City councilman J.T. Carter lent an older, unused home on a piece of property he owned to PCFD for the exercises.
The firefighters set up scenarios that would simulate real world firefighting experiences in the home.
They then burned the house all the way to the ground to practice hose attack techniques in a training fire.
Fire chief Patrick Draper said his department likes to do a lot of training “so we can stay on top of our game.”
