Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Leona Griffitt Bannister, 93, of Ohatchee, Alabama, were held Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at Usrey Chapel in Pell City.

Interment was in Popes Chapel Cemetery in Ragland.

Mrs. Bannister passed away Saturday, February 9, 2008 at St. Clair Health and Rehab.

She is preceded in death by her husband, William Monroe Griffitt; daughter, Juanita Ann Chamblee; three brothers, William Webster Barnette; James Bea Barnette, Joseph E. Johnston.

Mrs. Bannister is survived by her sons, James W. Griffitt of Ohatchee, William Hugh Griffitt of Weaver, Joseph Madison Griffitt of Argo; sister, Myrtle Velma Newton of Shoal Creek; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Bannister moved to Alabama from Cobb County, Georgia around 1918. She grew up and raised a family at Rural Route #1 in Ragland. She married William Monroe Griffitt. They had four children, three boys and one girl.

Usrey Funeral Home in Pell City directed the services.
