Officials to resume search for Moody skeletal remains

After human skeletal remains were found behind the Kelly Creek subdivision in Moody, law enforcement agencies are preparing to search for the rest of the remains.

Police Chief Bobby Breed confirmed last night that remains were found last Wednesday afternoon after a gentleman walking his dog reported finding the remains in a swampy area between Kelly Creek and I-20 in Moody.

According to Breed, several bones have been recovered.

“We had an idea of who we thought it was. But it doesn’t look like it’s that person anymore,” Breed said, noting that the department is collaborating with agencies who have cold cases with DNA or dental records available to identify the body.

Breed estimated the remains have been in that location for up to two years; but it’s a thick, wooded, swampy area where no one would normally be, he said. Breed said investigators have stopped searching for a few days in order to let the area dry out to aid their search.

“We’re hoping by Friday to know the gender and approximate age [of the victim],” he said.

The Moody and Riverside police departments, St. Clair County Sheriff’s Dept. and the state Department of Forensic Sciences have been involved with the investigation.
